Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking Laboratory Technicians I to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Laboratory Technician I attends classroom, on-the-job, and other assigned training. Performs basic laboratory functions associated with sampling and analysis of radioactive samples.

Responsibilities

  • Works from approved standard and special procedures taking guidance from management and experienced technicians as warranted. *
  • Performs routine laboratory functions such as hands-on and remote sampling and analyzes solids, liquids, gases, solutions and sludges that range from clean/stable to radioactive/unstable. Performs lab scale and pilot scale processes. Properly disposes waste. *
  • Operates, maintains and/or calibrates equipment and instrumentation associated with chemical, metallurgical or specialized instrumental analysis, remote analytical cell, glove box operation, and environmental sampling and analysis.
  • Performs activities/analysis on countertops, radio benches, ventilated hoods, in glove boxes or in shielded cells. *
  • Successfully completes classroom, on-the-job training, lectures, seminars and other forms of training. *
  • Learns to operate laboratory equipment to include analytical equipment for organic, inorganic, wet chemistry and radiochemistry analysis; in addition to the operation of master-slave manipulators and remote overhead hoists. *
  • Meets the physical requirements for the essential job duties, which may include being able to lift/handle 25 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory), remote handling of equipment and meeting radiological control (RCI) requirements. *
  • Performs administrative functions such as reading, reviewing and understanding manuals and procedures. *
  • Performs housekeeping and clerical activities including the use of computers/software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Obtain all qualifications as designated by the Laboratory Manager within twelve months

Preferred Qualifications

  • College level coursework in chemistry, mathematics, and/or nuclear science
  • Previous laboratory and/or radiological work experience

USD $32.29/Hr.
